Starting off
Thought I would share some thoughts on global and local health issues, after living and/or working in low- and middle-income countries for about 40 years. I will write in English since it is easiest for me to write in, though this is oriented to public health colleagues in Latin America or elsewhere.
Primary health care
How to prioritize and improve primary health care services is the question.
Participation
Community participation in health is the most misunderstood part of primary health care.
Local Health Administration Communities (CLAS) in Peru are a unique in the world as a legalized form of social participation in health. According to a law passed in 2007, elected community members, along with selected representatives of local State entities, can become a formally registered non-profit civil association called a CLAS Association that will have specific roles and responsibilities in the administration of public sector primary health care facilities.
